An article in National Geographic several years ago
provided a penetrating picture of God's wings.
After a forest fire in Yellowstone National Park,
forest rangers began their trek up a mountain
to assess the inferno's damage.
One ranger found a bird literally petrified in ashes,
perched statuesquely on the ground at the base of a tree.
Somewhat sickened by the eerie sight,
he knocked over the bird with a stick.
When he struck it,
three tiny chicks scurried from under their dead mother's wings.
The loving mother,
keenly aware of impending disaster,
had carried her offspring to the base of the tree
and had gathered them under her wings,
instinctively knowing that the toxic smoke would rise.

She could have flown to safety
but had refused to abandon her babies.
When the blaze had arrived
and the heat had singed her small body,
the mother had remained steadfast.
Because she had been willing to
die,
those under the cover of her wings would live.

"He shall cover thee with his feathers,
and under His wings shalt thou trust" (Ps 91:4).
Learn to experience the warmth and protection
of life beneath the wings of the Almighty.

Through The Fire
So many times I've questioned certain circumstances
Or things I could not understand.
Many times and trials weakness blurs my vision,
and orchestration gets so out of hand.
It's then I am reminded I've never been forsaken;
I've never had to stand the test alone.
As I look at all the victories, the Spirit rises up in me.
It's through the fire my weakness is made strong.
And he never promised that the cross would not be heavy;
And the hill would not be hard to climb.
He never offered a victory without fighting,
But he said help would always come in time.
Just remember when you're standing in the valley of decision,
And the adversary says give in, but just hold on;
Our Lord will show up, and he will take you through the fire again.
I know within myself that I would surely perish.
But if I trust the hand of God;
He'll shield the flames again... again...
He never promised that the cross would not be heavy;
And the hill would not be hard to climb.
He never offered a victory without fighting,
But he said help would always come in time.
Just remember when you're standing in the valley of decision,
And the adversary says give in, just hold on;
Our Lord will show up, and he will take you through the fire again.
So just hold on....
Our Lord will show up...
And he will take you though the fire again.
